can an outdoor cork bulletin board be painted for weather protection?

We bought a cork bulletin board for our outdoor kiosk. This board will be exposed to all sorts of weather conditions and we wonder if painting the front and back would keep the cork from buckling etc.If painted we want to be sure that pins and staples can easily be stuck into the board. Which paint would be suitable?

2. cork board doesn't rot easily and is not really that expensive to replace. keep it as it is.
