Where can I find a normal kind of chat room without the freakshow?

I used to go to chat rooms a long time ago but haven't for years-too busy. This summer I am planning a trip with 5 friends to Traverse City Michigan and would like to chat with some people up there so I know where the cool spots to hang out are. All the chats i find now, are filled with all these crazy porn chicks pimping their sites, and im's from all kinds of weirdos. I just want to find a free normal chat that is regional enough to talk to people from the northern lower peninsula Michigan/Traverse City area. Any advice?
