Are there free chat rooms with no gimmicks or strings attached?

And what is the difference between a chat room or a blog? I new to the internet world, Thank you.

2. Yahoo has free chat rooms available for people who are 18 and over. If you have a Yahoo account all you need to do is download Yahoo messenger and use it to enter Yahoo chat where you'll be able to choose among the many free chat rooms available.
   
   
   
   A chat room is a place where you go to have instant conversations with other people that are online and present in the chat room. You usually need additional software to access and use the chat rooms, you also need a username that you use inside the chat rooms that help other people recognize you there.
   
   
   
   A blog is a web site where a person writes regularly. It usually contains dated text in reverse chronological order. Many blogs are personal sites where one person writes about his life, his hobbies etc... The author may allow other people to leave comments for him to which he replies. Blogs are typically not used to instant online conversations.
